The harpy is the largest eagle in the Americas and the most powerful bird of prey in the world. But this ghost of the canopy is rare - so rare that many adventurers, scientists and avid birders have spent their entire lives searching, to barely catch a single glimpse.Home to vast expanses of tangled rainforest, wide plains of natural savannah and winding river systems, Guyana is a global biodiversity hotspot. Over 80% of the country is covered by dense primary rainforest with almost its total population living on the tiny coastal strip. Submitter Statement : The Amazon and the incredible diversity of life within it, have captivated me for all my life. I wanted to be able to show this wonder through the eyes of someone who had a lifelong dream to go - and I found it in Natasha Ellison. Her infectious positivity and drive to find a harpy made this journey a true adventure!

Submitter Biography : Daniel is a film festival director, filmmaker and field biologist, specialising in rainforests.After completing his degree in Zoology, he developed his skills in the remote Amazon and Yucatan as a habitat scientist and has travelled across much of Europe, Southeast Asia, North Africa and the Caribbean. He recently completed the MA in Wildlife Filmmaking at UWE Bristol in partnership with the BBC Natural History Unit. During this time, Daniel worked as a researcher for Hello Halo and Oak Island Films and alongside fellow course-mate Isaac Rice, founded the conservation minded Wilderland Film Festival.
