SOLO UNA VITA (JUST ONE LIFE)

A girl goes to live on the second floor of a country house on the outskirts of a small town in the Sicilian hinterland. He discovers that the attic of his apparently closed apartment is inhabited by a man and asks for explanations from the owner of the building that lives on the ground floor. He will find out that he is a musician who has locked himself in because of a trauma. Being also a musician, on the advice of the landlady, who practices the art of Kintsugi, will try to help him out of his state with the complicity of music. When the man decides to listen to the girl he will discover that she too has experienced a trauma and together they will try to repair the wounds of their heart to the sound of notes.

The feature film uses a fiction narrative with a documentary directorial cut aimed at making the spectator interpenetrate in the life of the three protagonists. Simple photography aims to give an almost cynical realism that wants to strip the actors of their role by spying on them as ordinary people struggling with everyday problems. The music does not accompany the images but on the contrary is accompanied by the action of the characters who often use the artistic messenger to communicate their emotions and sensations. The choice to use only the guitar gives the latter the true characteristics of another character who is an active part of the story told. Even the choice of sets, costumes and make-up takes into account this desire to keep what is happening in front of the camera as real as possible. The dialogues and songs send a message that is also synthesized through an ancient form of Japanese art that is the Kintsugi, a hobby that one of the characters will use as a metaphor to overcome the difficulties encountered in their lives the protagonists and as a message with the same purposes to be addressed to viewers.
